45N77W – Solo Canoe – 40″ x 40″ – Original Oil on Canvas by Brian Lorimer
You can find Solo Canoe on any GPS! Brian Lorimer’s landscape series, Coordinates, is based on iconic Canadian Imagery. These bold, dreamlike snapshots are accompanied by the coordinates of the locations. Therefore you can find the specific spots on maps and they are also moments in time. A tongue in cheek rumination on space and time. Brian Lorimer keeps stretching and evolving his work. “Coordinates” follows his series “Hudsy’s World” where Lorimer played and explored his relationship with his 5 year-old grandson Hudson, who lives on the autism spectrum, and his grandson’s art. Lorimer’s “Hudsy’s World” playfully and lovingly taps into Picasso’s famous quote, “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”
Brian Lorimer’s Biography
In 1995 Brian created a successful mural business, Lorimer Inc.. Over an 8 year period he employed as many as 10 artists full-time and freelance to assist him in executing over 150 murals. All of the murals were custom designed – hand painted works of fine art – acrylic on canvas and installed on location for a variety of clients throughout the USA and Canada. He then retired to focus on personal projects.
One project involved navigating the Inca Trail to Ethiopia’s Omo Valley. This is one of the most remote places on earth, and therefore home to some tribes of people that have been living the same way for centuries.
Project Remembrance saw Lorimer travelling to Belgium and France for inspiration. This somber series of paintings were based on World War 1. An homage to the brave people who fought.
Brian’s painting are known for their bold, vivid colors. There is also a way that Brian mixes textures and styles to create an almost collage-like portrait or landscape. This of course makes for a very unique and striking image.
